Razia Sultan belongs to the genre of Indian historical drama that aired on &TV in March 2015 with a daily broadcast from 7:30 p.m till 8:00 p.m (Monday - Friday). The show begins with the voice of Shah Rukh Khan as the Sutradhaar which takes us to the 13th Century and into the life of Razia Sultan (Pankhuri Awasthi) who is the daughter of Illtutmish ( Sooraj Thapar Sooraj Thapar is a veteran actor in the Indian Tel >> Read More... ), Emperor and is the apple of his eye. The Emperor is well known amongst his people for his fairness, compassion and was all the more favoured for his sense of justice towards them. When he learns that his son Ruknuddin Firoz (Ankit Arora) has broken the law and in the process violated the peace of the land he takes quick action and gives him severe punishment going against Shah Turkan (Sambhavana Seth) and incurring her displeasure and wrath. The Emperor wishes for Razia to succeed him after he dies.

However, there were many who opposed this thought, and couldn't digest the fact that women would be at a superior level and would rule upon them. This raised a huge uproar against the Emperor. However Razia proved herself to be deserving of the throne by showing the people her compassionate, caring and dedicated behaviour similar to that of her father hence earning the respect of everyone and eventually being accepted as the first ever female Emperor. After Razia succeeding, the court officials begin to gossip behind her back about her personal life, and her love affair with her childhood friend Altunia (Rohit Purohit).

Altunia was once the Emperor's slave, but was then set free and inducted into the army; he was a black and a dark-skinned man. Razia now had to choose between the two, her crown or her love for Altunia. Different characters like that of Razia’s elder sister - Shazia (Bhavana Chauhan), Razia’s grandmother - Shamshad Begum (Seema Kapoor), Best friend of Razia - Slave Girl (Riya Deepsi), Egyptian King (Manish Khanna) play a pivotal role throughout the series. Pankhuri Awasthi as Razia Sultan was nominated for the award of “Fresh New Face” and Sooraj Thapar as Illtutmish was nominated for “Actor in Supporting Role (Drama)” The show was last aired on 23rd October with successfully completing 107 Episodes on &TV.

Pankhuri Awasthi Pankhuri is a well known Indian television actress. She was born in Lucknow and later brought up in Delhi. She did schooling from Bluebells International for four years and further successfully got graduated from Hindu College. She was placed with a Bangalore-based company. During the years of her college, she was a part of Drama Society and performed a lot of plays with other experienced theatre groups. Pankhuri had formerly featured in an episode of “Yeh Hai Aashiqui” and “Fanaah - Season 2” before signing for “Razia Sultan”. She has put in hours of practice training for sword fighting and horse riding and a lot of effort in research work for her character. She was last seen in the historical series “Suryaputra Karn” playing the role of Draupadi which aired on Sony.
