Rahe Na Rahe Hum was a reality television show that aired on Star Plus. The show was hosted by scriptwriter cum lyricist Javed Akhtar. The serial was broadcast every Sunday at 1030, and it attracted a cult following for the brief period that it was aired. The serial was an attempt by Star Plus to gain viewers and popularity among viewers who were above forty years old.
The serial took viewers behind the scenes of old and classic movies that were produced in the fifties and sixties. The show followed the path and methods used in the making of golden oldies such as Sholay and Mughal-e-Azam. It also reveals several amusing anecdotes and incidents that occurred when the movies were being shot. The serial took viewers back to the building blocks of the modern Indian film industry. Javed Akhtar once commented on the show and said, “I remember seeing many of them several times. They belong to my past and are very close to my heart. There are interesting incidents associated with them - like a rainy day when I watched a film or a friend with whom I shared a beautiful relationship. For me they are nostalgia.”
Although the serial was a moderate hit, Javed Akhtar was accused of picking some films that should not have been selected. He was accused of selecting them for the sole reason that he was also involved in their making.
