Mera Tera Rishta Purana is a family drama that is based on a novel called ‘Custody’ by Manju Kapoor. The title of the show was later changed to ‘Ye Hai Mohabbatein’ and Cezanne Khan was replaced by Karan Patel for the lead role. It is produced by Ekta Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms. This family drama revolves around the story of a Tamilian girl Ishita Iyer played by Divyanka Tripathi who is unable to bear any children and Raman Bhalla, a divorcee with a daughter. Ishita cares a lot for Raman’s daughter, Ruhi as she is sterile and cannot have children of her own.
Circumstances lead to Ishita falling for Raman, and they get married to provide a good life for Ruhi. This serial follows their hardships after marriage and how they deal with it. It is a simple story about how love conquers everything. Raman’s ex-wife Shagun Arora is not happy with his marriage to Ishita and has a different plan for them and wants to destroy their happily ever after. She lives with her boyfriend Ashok Khanna who is also Raman’s ex-boss and an old rival. She also has a son called Aditya.
While Shagun plans her wedding to Ashok, Ishita’s sister Mihika is soon going to get married to Shagun’s brother Mihir Arora. Raman and Mihir share a good brotherly relationship with each other. However, fate soon takes a turn and Mihika is nearly molested by Ashok who also continuously blackmails her. As she cares and loves her soon-to-be-husband Mihir a lot, she breaks off their marriage and gets married to Ashok instead. As Shagun’s life starts to fall apart, her son Aditya also leaves the house and goes to live with Raman and Ishita.
As things finally start to settle, Subramaniam Chandran, Ishita’s ex-finance enters her life again. He wants to seek revenge by ruining her life. On the other hand, Mihika finally reveals the truth about the reason behind Ashok and leaves him. Mihir is already married to Raman’s sister Rinky by this time. Shagun who has been trying to create problems in Ishita and Raman’s household through Aditya gives up finally and lets them live a peaceful life. This show deals with various societal issues such as infertility, remarriage and inter-caste marriage.
It is supported by an excellent cast of talented actors. Anita Hassanandani Reddy plays the anti-protagonist Shagun Arora while Sangram Singh plays the role of Ashok Khanna. Avantika Hundal and Raj Singh Arora play the roles of Mihika and Mihir respectively.
