Plot
Anbu is an alcoholic. He is married and is expecting his first child. When everyone curses him for being an alcoholic, his wife is shattered into pieces and requests him to quit the evil habit. Though Anbu thinks about quitting alcoholism, he is unable to do so. How alcoholism spoils his family and what are the after-effects of death due to alcoholism form the rest of the story.
Star Performance
The national award winner Appukutty’s performance as Anbu is fantastic. Sreeja Ravi has done a different role as Thoppiyamma and is stunning. In fact, it takes time to identify her. Such was her make-up. Aiswarya Anil Kumar has done justice to the given role.
Analysis
It is a social message-oriented film. Though the concept is not new, the director has narrated it from a different perspective. It is good to see Appukutty performing so naturally in yet another lead role. The scenes towards the climax are shot impressively. The emotional scenes will connect with the people. Though it is a message-oriented film, it has nothing preachy and no commercial elements are forcedly inserted. The first half travels on a different note, and the second half is better than the first half. Except for Appukutty and Sreeja Ravi, the film has no known stars, which is one of the biggest minus points. The music is quite decent, and the visuals are okay.

If you love watching a social message-oriented film, you can go for Piranthanaal Vazhthukal without much expectation. It is definitely a much-needed film for the society!
