Plot

Roy and Shirley are residing in Mumbai. They plan for a vacation in their native in Kerala, where Shirley’s dad lives. At that time, the lockdown is imposed due to the widespread of Covid-19. Shirley’s dad is a retired teacher who spends his life at his ancestral house. As the lockdown gets extended, they experienced a different situation, as they had already started speaking about their past. What happened in their past? Why are they digging it out? Was that a pleasant memory? The answers form the rest of the story.

Star Performance

Biju Menon did his part well, as usual. His experienced performance as a retired school teacher, lonely person and a dad is fantastic. Parvathy, Sharafudheen and the rest of the stars did what is apt for their characters.

Analysis

The film showcases the emotions of a family during the lockdown. Along with the present situation, they have tried their best to bring out what had happened in many people's lives during the lockdown. Many had pleasant and some had bitter memories while spending their time with their family, during the lockdown. That’s well shown in the film. The movie moves at a slow pace but conveys the right thing. Even this emotional story has a twist before the climax that most of the audience wouldn’t have guessed. The songs, BGM and cinematography are good. If there are some more interesting sequences added to the script, it would have been more gripping.

What’s There?

  • The performances of the stars are neat
  • The film is technically sound

What’s Not There?

  • The screenplay should have been a bit fast

Verdict

Aarkkariyam is a good drama with lots of emotions, performances and even twist. Aarkkariyam – watchable once!
