Wild Hearts is a family and semi thrilled drama that revolves around the couplet of a father and daughter. It is a Genesis Award - winning movie. Donald Martin and Mitchell Gabourie wrote the script. Steve Boyum directed the movie. Larry Levinson Productions is the production company. The cast includes Richard Thomas, Nancy Mckeon, Hallee Hirsh, Geoffrey Lewis Geoffrey Lewis was an American artist who appeared >> Read More... , A.J Trauth, James T. Callahan, Amanda Carlin, Alan Fudge, Joseph Culp, Steve Seagreen, Ashlee Turner and Gregg Martin. Producers of the film include Albert T. Dickerson III and Jeff Kloss. James W. Wrenn handled the cinematography. Christine Kelley and Andrew Vona edited the script.

Plot

The film starts with the introduction of Bob, a widowed police detective who struggles to raise his daughter Emily as he is a single parent. They inherited a family ranch in Montana and they moved to the countryside. Madison, the daughter, develops a special bond with wolves and their babies. She rides horses and spends most of her time in nature. However, a hunter kills her horse and burns down houses in their neighbourhood. Madison gets in trouble with the dangerous hunter and the wolves save her life.

Star performance

The actors in the movie like Richard Thomas as Bob Hart and Nancy Mckeon as Emily have delivered uniform acting. In the veterinarian's role Nancy had performed well, her acting skills are appreciated. Relationship dynamic and chemistry between the characters Bob Hart and Madison, played by Hallee are way too good. Minor actors like Geoffrey Lewis as Hank and A. J. Trauth as Tim also delivered linear performances throughout the movie.

Analysis

The plot of the movie is quite interesting. Along with family drama, it also has some instances of thrillers. The relationship, understanding and complexities between father and daughter are depicted very well. The Sheriff's character is a loving fellow whereas his daughter's character is full of complexities. The cinematography is excellent for a low budget movie, the scenery and a good human connection was shown through the background. This movie is an example of clean family drama and its script is deep. Character of Madison undergoes the process of self-discovery and transforming as from a young girl she develops into a well-respected lady. The storyline is exciting and innovative, with various turns and twists.

The film is filled with emotional scenes. Some scenes, for instance when Bob discovers his dead wife's letters and his father's belongings are quite emotional. There are several such scenes that are pretty overwhelming. However, there was a lack of romantic scenes in the movie. Only some kissing scenes were shown. Also the acting of characters are sometimes inconsistent and vertical dialogues. The main lead, Richard Thomas and Hellee did admirable work but the supporting cast brought disappointment with their acting.

What's there?

  • A good family movie with a little mystery which makes its plot unpredictable.
  • The script and movie's direction were to the point.
  • The film had beautiful scenery in the background and a fantastic soundtrack. It adds emotional depth to the script.

What's not there?

  • In the movie a little violence is shown, for instance killing of horses, burning down houses, killing of wolves.
  • The movie has troubled and inconsistent acting in various scenes
  • The character's development is linear; they don't undergo any development throughout the movie.

Verdict

The movie is a must-watch film along with family. There are minimal romantic scenes and it is a moral based story. It gives out the message to protect wildlife and to have a deep emotional connection with nature.
