Plot
The movie starts in 1960s, with two young brothers in Sydney who were escaping a violent house with their mother, Kat. She took the family car to escape as her husband sleeps. They decide to move into another continent in order to hide themselves and start with a fresh life. When they arrive in the south of Perth on the West Coast, both the boys convince Kat to join a surf break to their travel before proceeding further. The kids started attending a local school and their mother is employed as a seamstress. After years passed, in 1972, now they are young adults staying in an abandoned home near the beach, which is purchased by their mother. While surfing Jimmy wins the 1972 surfing competition. Older boy Andy is employed in a hardwood factory, but escaping from his chosen occupation, he engages and actively involved in petty crimes. Both the brothers were desperate and eager to overcome the difficulties they are going through. Not finding any other ways, they join together and formed a partnership. Andy experiences an empty space in market and grabs the opportunity to create shorter surfboards and personalized waterproof suits stitched by Kat in the outside garage area. They somehow managed to make some money by selling those, however they faced difficulty over a loan from the bank to grow their business. Why did they fly away from their home leaving their dad alone? The film unfolds with a lot of twists.
Star Performance
The performance that the cast has delivered along with the cinematography was great, both blended together very well. The chosen coastal locations were perfect for the scenes. The film and the storyline felt authentic having action, drama, romance, business, and enjoyment. The best part of the film was the excellent background work done by the crew, which reflects early seventies aesthetics.
Analysis
The movie, The Drift had the right amount of suspense, humour, and feel-good moments, without any full-on intimate scenes which seem to be the norm today. The best part is the music, which was great but could have been more of the 70’s and it was great to watch a movie that is lightly based on true events. The film and its aesthetics can take you back to the seventies culture and can make you go through a nostalgic flashback.

Verdict
If you love beach then the scenes are treats to your eyes along with the thrill that comes along the surfing. Altogether, the film is an allrounder and can positively lift up your mood.
