Plot: This movie says about the efforts taken to topple the California’s ‘Proposition 8’ (ban on same-sex marriage). Exclusive behind-the-scene footages of the real case was also played along with the documentary. It was an emotional and thrill path till the end. Each character was portrayed separately. Majority of the population had supported the proposition 8. Despite of that, the efforts made by Chad Griffin, founder of ‘American foundation of equal rights’ and Ted Olson, one of the notable lawyers of the US did not go in vain. Olson was basically a person who supported the fact that all the person has got their own right to love anyone. Olson’s style of making the opponents to accept his points makes the viewers to come to the edge of their seat.
Along with the legal battle, the emotional love story of Jeff and Paul, Kris and Sandy also makes us to understand how important it is to break the proposition 8. This was also one tough case since it touches few of the undisputed topics like culture and tradition.
This battle happens to be one of the most historical event in the battle for equality. This documentary happens to be one of the best nail-biting dramas. Almost 5 years of effort by the director, who tracked and moved along with the happenings in the case, put it down beautifully in 1 hour 52 minutes to the audience. Director has tried his best to showcase each and every detail to the audience. At times, it did not work. During the trial inside the court, camera got banned inside at the last minute. To compensate it, the director made each and every important characters present inside to read their testimony and display the printed version of it.
Verdict: The only point which lacked was that the team which supports the proposition 8 was not concentrated much. Their thoughts and steps were not given much screen space.
