Plot
Emmanuel is a small suburban area. The largest communal event in the area is the annual nativity pageant of the church. The church’s regular choir director is injured, and hence, he is unable to direct the 75th anniversary pageant. So, Grace, a mom, agrees to take up the charge to save the production. The Herdmans, a six-sibling family, is notorious for their mischievous behaviour. They have earned the name The Worst Children In The World. They expressed their wish to participate in the Christmas Pageant, and Grace granted them permission to do so. The rest of the residents were afraid of the upcoming happenings. But what they experienced was a sweet surprise from the notorious children. What did they do? The rest of the film showcases the surprise given by the Herdmans.
Star Performance
Judy Greer played an important role that brings the needed grip to the story. She escalated the role well and impressed the audience. Beatrice Schneider played the role of Imogene Herdman, one of the notorious kids. Her performance in the scene where she enters the church for the first time and looks out at the Virgin Mary’s painting holding Jesus Christ and expressing her wish to become like her one day was really amazing. Her eyes expressed much more than her dialogue.
Analysis
The film starts on a decent note with the character establishment. Though the screenplay was a bit slow in the beginning, it picked up the right pace when the kids expressed their desire. All the characters are designed well with the much-needed depth. The film tried to prove that even the most hated people in society have some resemblance to God within them. The story showcases the real meaning of Christmas and the notorious kids explain it. The visuals are so colourful and Christmas celebrations have added extra colors. The BGM is quite decent and travels well with the screenplay.
