Plot

Teresa, her cousin Jessica and Jessica’s boyfriend Caleb go to a lake house for a vacation, however, in an unfortunate turn of events, Jessica gets possessed by an unknown entity, scalps Teresa, decapitates Caleb and then levitates above the lake. A day earlier, Beth gets upset learning about her pregnancy, and decides to visit her sister Ellie in a LA apartment. An earthquake strikes the apartment they live in, revealing a hidden room where Ellie’s son Danny finds a book and tapes that summon demons. Unknowingly, Danny summons a demon from the book, which possesses Ellie. What happens next is the rest of the story.

Analysis

Like any other Evil Dead movie, this movie is not devoid of violence. However, the storyline could have had more depth. The cinematography and background score were exceptional, keeping us on the edge of our seats. The performances by the actors were extraordinary.

Star performance

Alyssa Sutherland gave an excellent performance as a possessed psycho killer. Lily Sullivan is also acceptable as Beth, but her character feels lifeless. The child actors playing Ellie’s kids are okay but don’t contribute much to the movie. Overall, the performances were terrific.

The film’s lead and supporting actors delivered outstanding performances.
The editing in the film was good.
The music in the film got us hooked.
The cinematography of the film was terrific.

A detailed storyline could have made the film wholesome.

Verdict

Overall, Evil Dead Rise is a horror film that fulfills its promise of delivering extreme gore and intense scares. Despite its hollow and empty storyline, it was a fun and thrilling addition to the Evil Dead franchise.
