Analysis
The documentary delves deeper into the formation of an artist whether it's a blessing or disguise. Chris Burden’s artwork changes momentarily as he progresses people might dislike him but his artwork is inspirational and innovative. The documentary also highlights his obsession in showcasing his “art”. The documentary shows his most known work Shoot (1971) where his friend shoots on his right shoulder. It does make the audience intrigued about his obsession towards art, having no limits. The documentary will have a polarizing reaction because it's like Chris Burden. Some sequences in the film are sort of disturbing like Chris discussing with his team about new ideas like setting himself on fire, getting shot, threatening a woman by holding a knife on her neck. The documentary highlights how these stunts are done cautiously from Chris’s pov. The film takes the generic term once Chris gets famous and how he’s more egoistic, a maniac. In the third act the film showcases Chris as a sensible and calm man. The film fantastically builds the narrative of how the audience feels about Chris Burden. His work was good and inspirational but as he grew his variety of actions, good or bad, made the audience uncertain about how they feel about him as an artist.
