Plot
The film’s protagonist is Dezzy, played by Dora Madison. Dezzy is a phenomenal artist facing the worst creative block of her life. Her situation got to the point that she had not paid her rent for a while. She smokes a lot, but later moves on to stronger stuff in hopes of finding inspiration for her next painting. She starts doing a drug called Diablo which changes her radically. Every night, she feasts on human flesh and paints the next day brimming with inspiration. The film follows Dezzy on her artistic journey, her drug abuse, the ensuing psychedelic visions, and the chaos that follows.
Star Performance
Dora Madison delivers a stellar performance. She perfectly portrays Dezzy’s disturbed mental state and chaotic experiences.
Analysis
The film’s overuse of drugs feels repetitive. The film has a good concept, and the film-makers employ a plethora of ideas to execute the film, but fail in doing so because the film strays from its path along the way.
What’s There?
• The film follows an artist who turns to dangerous drugs to find motivation for new paintings, and the horrific consequences of those drugs
• The first half of the film is dramatic while the genre turns horror in the second half
What’s Not There?
• The film has a disappointing conclusion
• The film has a good concept but fails to execute it
Verdict
The film might be a good watch for horror enthusiasts. But the film would not be everyone’s cup of tea, as it has numerous instances of portrayal of drug usage, and vibrant flashing lights, which is why there is a photosensitive epilepsy warning at the beginning of the film.
