It premiered in January 2011 at Sundance and it was nominated for the Independent John Spirit Cassavettes award for its $17000 budget.
Plot:
The movie takes us on a psychedelic-infused roller coaster ride through the lives of two friends. Woodrow and Aiden move into Bellflower, Los Angeles from Wisconsin. They seem to spend most of their time preparing for their version of an impending apocalypse, flame throwers, and the works. Woodrow meets Milly, who beats him in a cricket-eating contest, and instantly sparks fly. The film moves from soft romance to insanity in a matter of seconds. A trip to Texas for a date, and swapping his Volvo for a motorcycle turns into jealousy and betrayal, as Milly cheats on Woodrow with Mike, her roommate. The colors in the movie intensify, and the movie spirals out of control.
Analysis:
The movie is a plethora of emotions, and the audience can pick their favorite and hang onto it. Medusa the super sexy car, which dominates the second half needs a special mention. Evan gives us a brilliant interpretation of youth and insanity. The people are all new faces, so there is no feigning star quality. There is a lot of talk going around that it has a Mad Max inspiration. Well, it does and honestly, who wouldn’t want to make a cool movie like Mad Max? The movie is endearing at places, and exhilarating at a few, but at some they seem to overlap.

as Aiden suit the roles of youngsters with a flair for fireworks. Jesse Wiseman as Milly is a good selection, right for the free-spirited type. The fact that Evan built the camera should be mentioned, for his anarchic tendencies alone.
What’s there?
1. Talented hand at work in cinematography and nice use of colors.
2. Youthful romance, which brings a smile on your face
3. The insane idea of preparing for the Apocalypse
4. An appreciable attempt at a style of film-making that only a few people are capable of doing.
What’s not there?
1. The film gets a little too overwhelming at times.
2. The movie stops being real at one point and tears the humanity out of everything, which sits with you like a sour aftertaste.
Verdict:
Bellflower is a circus town, which everyone needs to visit but they should not plan a long stay.
