An evil supernatural app and a bunch of high school kids with smartphones in a horror movie, feel scared yet?
Plot
A group of high school teenagers downloads an exclusive app on the phones. The intelligent app has access to all their social media accounts and does some high tech functions. Soon the smart app becomes spooky and ominous. It becomes life-threatening, and it only stops when the user is dead. Later the teenagers find out that a supernatural entity channels itself through the app and starts killing people. The end has a twist which will leave you thinking about the movie long after you’ve watched it.
Analysis
Bedeviled is reminiscent of the Ring and Final Destination series. Throughout the movie, you feel as if you’ve watched it before. The movie has fantastic cinematography, but it lacks in every other department. It is a budget film that very accurately shows the lives of high-school students and focuses on how important a phone has become in their lives. Mr. Bedeviled is a ruthless and shrewd entity. He is smarter than everyone else in the movie and ten steps ahead. In the end, even though it seems that he is defeated, we can’t be sure.
Star performance
Considering the script and the genre which gives no scope for acting, the cast gives a convincing performance. It is good to see that the director does not align with the usual stereotypes regarding the high-school students.
What’s there?
1) Thrills of having supernatural evil.
2) Nail biting scenes that make you jump.
What’s not there?
1) Nothing new feels like this genre has been strung out enough
2) The director doesn’t care much about the script.
Verdict
It sends a social message and is appropriate for a one time watch.
