Sanjay Gupta recently called out the done to death marketing gimmicks.
According to the filmmaker, the marketing tactics employed by Bollywood, including overuse of promotional songs and videos is one of the reason why Hindi cinema is currently facing a creative slump.
Gupta admitted that he was one of the first creators to introduce this kind of promotion. However, those were things of the past, and it won’t necessarily guarantee producers success today.
Sanjay Gupta had also slammed the rising entourage costs of certain film stars, maintaining that some of them haven’t delivered enough successes to claim their right over the same. He also cited examples of movies like 12th Fail and Saiyaara, which succeeded despite not spending much over excessive promotion and PR.
Best known for making movies like Kaante and Kaabil, Sanjay Gupta had last directed The Miranda Brothers, which starred Meezan Jafri and Harshvardhan Rane in the lead roles, and directly streamed on the OTT platform JioCinema [which later merged with Disney+ Hotstar to become Jio Hotstar].
