Keerthi Pasquel's birth name is Pasquel Wasam Ananda Keerthirathna. He was born on 29 January 1956 in Hanthana, Kandy, Sri Lanka. He has been a professional pop musician and composer for over three decades. His parents are S. W. Leslin and Pasquel Wasam Gayaneris. His four elder siblings are Nalini, Rukmani Chandra, Padmasiri, and Chitrani. His three cousins, Bandula, Lalith, and Ranjith, often visited his home to learn guitar from his brother Padmasiri.

In 1978, he married Muditha Fernando and had a daughter named Dinesha Pasquel and a son named Kasun Pasquel. He divorced in 1994 and remarried K. M. Chandana Mudalige in 1995, with whom he had two daughters, Charuni and Natalia Pasquel. He studied until his GCE O/level examination at Dharmaraja College. He started a lathe machinery course at the Technical College after his O Levels exam.

He grew up influenced by his musically inclined family. His mother was a singer, and his father was a harmonium player. His father died due to an illness when he was a ten-year-old child. He secretly learned guitar chords from his cousin Bandula and started participating in school concerts. He participated in a talent contest in 9th standard at his school and trained the final ten students for the competition. He sang Victor Rathnayake's Adawan Desin, but his students overtook him. He then formed a musical group with his teenage friends and performed at functions. Riyaldeen later invited this group to join Stanley Peiris's headed group, GALAXIES. He was a bass guitarist in the group.

In 1996, he participated in a competition with musicians from thirteen countries and was honoured with an international award from the World Science Council in Japan. He launched a project titled The Child to help orphan children and to search for their capabilities. The project is still ongoing. The Child collected sponsorship funds for orphan children's rehab during the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami in 2005. In 2006, Keerthi founded the Pasquel Sound of Music, a voice training and instrumental music school.
