Sinhala Actor Udara Rathnayaka

Udara Rathnayake is a Sri Lankan actor, politician, and businessman. He was born on 21 June 1986 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. His father Bennett Rathnayake Bennett Rathnayake is a well-known actor, director >> Read More... is a famous film director, and his mother Samanmalee Hawapanna is a film producer. Sinhala actress Erandathi is his elder sister, and actress Bhagya is his younger sister. He got married to Dinali Kariyapperuma, the daughter of Priyantha Kariyapperuma on 30 November 2015, and the couple has a son, Dishen. He graduated in Business Management at the University of Essex, UK, and then completed his master’s degree in Development and Politics from the University of Colombo. Before his film debut, he played many lead roles in Sinhala Teledramas. He made his movie debut in 2005 with the Sinhala drama film Sulanga (The Wind), directed and produced by his father Bennett Rathnayake.

In 2010, Udara and Dharshani played the lead role in Ira Handa Yata, a war drama film directed by his father, and he got a nomination at the Singapore Film Festival for his role of Corporal Rakhitha in this movie. Later, in 2014, he acted in the film Siri Daladagamanaya. In 2018, he played the role of Kalu Mahaththaya in a Sinhala action masala film Porisadaya. Udara and Tharaka Wanniarachchi were in the lead roles in the romance film Nela, directed and produced by his father and released in 2018. He also acted in a Sinhala political thriller film, Nobody Knows or Kauruwath Danne Ne, released in 2021 under Benn Films Creations House. He is also one of the founding members of Sri Lanka United. In 2014, he contested for the Western Provincial Council under the United National Party and won a seat in the elections.
