Sarath Kotalawala is a Sri Lankan actor, director and producer and a screenplay writer known for movies like The Outcast (1998), Pickpocket (2002), Thanha Rathi Ranga (2014) in the Sri Lankan film industry. He was born on August 9th, 1957. His father was a businessman and mother was a rubber collector working in a rubber estate. . Working in the same drama he met Shelton Payagala who became his teacher and guided him in stage dramas and other theatre works. He has acted in about 80 stage plays and directed many of them. His most famous stage plays are Sookarayek Samaga, Nari Burathi 1,2, Mandela Mandela, etc.
He started his film career with Padadaya in 1998, directed by Linton Semage. He won the Best Screenplay Award at Derana Lux Film Awards in 2014 for the movie, Thanha Rathi Ranga. He has directed the movie, The Newspaper.
