Ishan Mendis is a native of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He went to the University of Kelaniya to complete his primary education. He began acting in 2012 with the film Colour: Dawn is Gone, directed by Isuru Weerasinghe Mudali. The film received good reviews and was rated 8.1 out of 10. He acted in the TV series Eka Langa Kotu, released in 2017. In the TV series, he played the role of Nauzi. In 2018, he came up with another acting role in the featured movie Kusal, sharing the platform with the leading actor - Thivru Dissanayake. His most recent film project is Visangamanaya, which was released in 2023. Besides working as an actor, he is the director of the Foundation of Manusathkama.
