Chandika Nanayakkara was born in Sri Lanka. His father worked as the deputy principal and disciplinary teacher, and his mother was a homemaker. He has three siblings. Chandika started acting during his school days. He developed a strong interest in drama and regularly attended the weekly stage dramas held at his school. In 2003, Chandika won the Tharumansala competition organized by Sirasa TV. It was the beginning of his acting journey.

His friend was working on a film set and asked Chandika to take on a small role in a movie called Mother Theresa. In 2006, he co-produced a tele series called "Suba Sihina" with one of his friends. He also worked on the show Haratha Hera. He was involved in the first Russian television, Veronica, series filmed in Sri Lanka. His talent got recognition beyond the borders of Sri Lanka, as he participated in the Tharu-Rayak show held in Dubai on 11 November 2008. Additionally, Chandika became the brand ambassador for Lak Salu Sala, further solidifying his presence in the entertainment industry. His most notable works include Hathara Denama Surayo, Sara, Wassanaye Senehasa, and Bhawantharana. In addition to his film roles, he has appeared in numerous television dramas. Throughout his career, Chandika Nanayakkara has received recognition and awards.

In 2008, he won the Jury Award for his work in "Vesak Sanda Ra" at the Sumathi Awards. He was also recognized as the Best Upcoming Actor for his performance in "Suba Sihina Ahawarai" at the same awards ceremony. Additionally, he has won several awards for Best Actor, Supporting Actor, and Popular Actor at various local television award festivals. Chandika won the Most Popular Actor award at the Sumathi Awards through voting in 2009 and 2010, which shows his popularity and talent among audiences.
