Sinhala Actor Anton Jude

Anton Jude Gomes, popularly known as Anton Jude, was a renowned actor and singer in Sri Lankan cinema, television and theatre. He was born on November 28, 1960, in Rathmalana, and he was the eldest among four siblings. His father, Clarence Gomes, played a significant role in nurturing his singing talents. Anton Jude attended St. Anthony's Roman Catholic School in Mount Lavinia. In 1978, he made his debut on stage with Sashi Quintes's production called Sudu Haththak (White Mushroom). He later ventured into the film industry and acted in notable movies like Bahubuthayo, Numba Nadan Apata Pissu, Rankewita,Sikuru Hathe, Rosa Kele, Ethumai Methumai, and many others.

He has also made a name for himself in television dramas, starring in popular series such as Punchi Rala, Sakisanda Elias, Sabanda Pabilis, Isuru Yogaya, and more. Additionally, his song Ais Amma Gundu (Una Puruke Balu Walige) became a massive hit among the masses. Anton Jude's talent extended to writing and directing as well. He wrote and directed his first stage drama, Sakisanda Madala, which premiered on December 29, 2009, at the Elphinston Theatre. Unfortunately, he battled health issues, including high blood pressure and diabetes. He received treatment at Nawaloka Hospital in February 2012. On the evening of March 19, 2012, Anton Jude experienced a cardiac arrest and was rushed to Colombo North Ragama Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon admission.

He died while working on a new film called Veeraya during the shooting at director Sunil Arunasiri's location in Kelaniya. Survived by his wife Manel, Anton Jude was laid to rest at the Borella Cemetery in Colombo on March 22, 2012. Throughout his career, Anton Jude left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry in Sri Lanka.
