Gyani Sant Singh Ji Maskeen was a theologian and a Sikh scholar famous for his expertise in Gurmat and Gurbani. He was born in 1934 in Lak Marwat in District Bannu, presently in Pakistan. He was born to Kartar Singh and his wife, Ram Kaur. He did his primary school at Khalsa School, which is now in Pakistan, and his higher education at a government high school. He had to face the turmoil of partition in 1947, due to which his family moved to India and settled in Alwar, Rajasthan. He could not continue his studies as his education earlier was done in Urdu and Persian. The language barrier caused him to discontinue his studies. He started looking for jobs due to poor financial conditions back home.
He worked in a factory for three months. He had in-depth knowledge of religion and started doing theological work. He was bestowed with the rare title of “Panth Rattan” for his services to humankind through the message of Gurbani. He also received Bhai Gurdas Gold posthumous award, worth rupees one lakh, and posthumously, the Gurmat Vidya Martand award by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. He was married to Sunder Kaur and had three sons and two daughters. He died on 18th March while attending a marriage in Etawah in Uttar Pradesh, India, due to a heart attack.
