Nand Lal Noorpuri was a poet, writer, and lyricist. He mainly wrote in Punjabi. He wrote lyrics for many movies. He went to Khalsa High School and completed his graduation from the Old Khalsa College in Lyallpur, now renamed Faisalabad. He quit college and joined as a teacher and later as an assistant sub-inspector in Bikaner. In Rajasthan, he received a bravery award. After the partition, Nand Lal settled in Jalandhar. He left the police force and came back to Punjab, in 1940. After coming back to Punjab he wrote lyrics for the film Mangti, and that gained him popularity.
The partition changed things for him, his source of income dried and he came to Jalandhar. Later, he started to work in radio and participated in Kavi darbars. His songs are sung by many notable and famous singers of Punjab. Disillusioned with poverty, he committed suicide by jumping into the well. A few years back, the Nand Lal Noorpuri Society was formed to promote his works.
