Bipan Chandra is a Punjabi author and historian. He was born on 24th May 1928 in Kangra, Punjab. He died at the age of 86 on 30th August 2014. He was in support of making India a secular and democratic country. He is famous for his book, “The Rise and Growth of Economic Nationalism.” He started his graduation from the Forman Christian College, Lahore. But he completed it from Stanford University, California, USA. He got his Ph.D. from Delhi University. He started his career as a lecturer and Professor of History at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is also the founder of the Enquiry Journal. He was also the chairman of the National Book Trust, New Delhi, for eight long years. His other publications include Ideology and Politics in Modern India, The Epic Struggle, Communalism in Modern India, Essays on Indian Nationalism, etc. His wife's name was Usha Chandra who passed away in 2009. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010.
