Milan Newar is a renowned Nepalese singer. She was born on the 25th of January, 1986, in Nunaikhuti, Goruwajhar, Assam. She was born to Shree Ganesh Newar and Ambika Newar. Milan began singing when she was 4 years old. She can sing in various languages like- Nepali, Bodo, Mishing, Assamese, Hindi, and Rajasthani. She was trained by her aunt Dukuna Newar and by Shree Badri Vyas, especially in Rajasthani Folk music. She became part of ‘Surganga’ a production company in Guwahati. In 2003, she was the first runner-up in the All-India Music Competition, judged by maestro Nuashad Ali and gazal artist Pinaz Masani.
She was also part of ‘Melancholy’ an environmental awareness song in Nepali which was composed, written, and directed by Nipesh Dhaka. Milan featured in this song alongside 365 other Nepali musicians and singers. After recording her solo part, she made a Guinness World Record for ‘most vocals solos in a song recording.’ Milan first recorded her song in 2002, named Khunmani, Bihu song, and her first album Kanchi, in Nepali in 2004. Her other work includes – Kunwali, Gamusa, Rangdhali in Assamese, Ghoomar in Rajasthani, Rojeni Arnai and Fri Friokha in Bodo, Maya and Mero Man in Nepali, and many more. In 2012, she was awarded Best Pop Female Singer by Image Awards.
