India has its own rich cultural heritage and what’s better than folk arts to represent this culture. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have nearly 200 forms of folk music with simple tunes and beautiful oral expressions.
These folk songs can be broadly categorized into Sramika or Labour songs which are the tunes sung by laborers while doing their job, Women’s songs such as Rokati Paatalu, Tirugali Paatalu, Farmer’s songs which are generally about plowing, sowing seeds, praying for rains, harvesting, etc.
Other categories include songs for Children, Love songs, Marriage songs, Responsorial songs which are about the conversation between two people, set in a folklore way, and epic songs which are about Hindu epics Ramayana and Bhagavata etc. Shows like Rela Re Rela are therefore initiatives taken by some channels to safeguard our rich cultural heritage and to pass it on to the future generations.
