The story opens with Shantanu, played by Abhay Deol, a CBI officer, investigating a plane crash in a remote area of West Bengal. Further investigations made Shantanu realize that the plane AO26, which crashed in 2019, is the same plane, JL50, that disappeared mysteriously in 1984, 35 years ago. The two survivors, pilot Bihu Ghosh, played by Ritika Anand, and Prof. Mitra, played by Piyush Mishra, were present in JL50 and have time-traveled 35 years in the future.
Shantanu went to Prof. Mitra's residence to get details about him and found out that he was researching about time-travel. Upon further investigation, Shantanu met Prof. Das, played by Pankaj Kapur, and found that Prof. Mitra was misusing his study about time travel and had planned to hijack JL50 for time-traveling to 35 years later. After much deliberation, Shantanu, Pilot Bihu, and Prof. Das decided to fly back in time through the same "wormhole" via which JL50 entered 2019 and attempted to prevent the hijack in 1984 and the plane crash in 2019. Reaching 1984, Shantanu discovered that pilot Bihu was his biological mother.
Shantanu was a child born out of wedlock, so Bihu's parents sent him to an orphanage. On the day of the hijack, before Shantanu could reveal it to Bihu, he and Prof. Das had to leave to confront Prof. Mitra and kill him and his subordinates in a shootout to prevent the mishap from happening. The ending showed Shantanu traveling via AO26 with his wife, going to an orphanage where Bihu was distributing goodies, and Shantanu calling Bihu Maa. In 1984, Bihu returned home safely and raised her son Shantanu to be happy and calm, but he did not join the CBI.
JL50 was a fair attempt made by the makers to introduce the concept of time travel uniquely. The casting, cinematography, screenplay, and story were well-constructed and planned. The dialogue delivery and portrayal of characters done by the actors are praise-worthy. The web series consists of four episodes of 30-40 minutes.
