Daal Dhamal is a competitive food show that airs on the Food Food Channel in India. The show is a cooking based competition show. The show is hosted by Prabal Punjabi, and each episode features a new guest judge. The show airs on weekdays at 7:30 pm. Prabal Punjabi is a new entrant in the television industry who has only acted in few television shows and a couple of movies. Each episode features four contestants split into teams of two. The contestants are ordinary people with a passion for cooking.

They do not include people who cook professionally but enjoy it as a hobby. The show gets it name from the fact that contestants have to cook using lentils or dal. Dal is an integral part of Indian cooking and the contestants have to come up with new dishes and twists on the old ones to suit the modern world. The dals are provided by the sponsor of the show. Rather than a straightforward cooking competition, the show features various games for the contestants to play.

First, the contestants have to play dart to get a dal to create a dish. They can get their favored dal or something that their opponent would give them. All of the lentils used in Indian cooking are available to choose. Next, the contestants need to choose the ingredients that they want. Each team works as a pair and plays a game to get the ingredient of their choice. Each member goes through an obstacle to get an ingredient and return to tag in the other member.

Each team gets only two minutes. However, the contestants may trade these items for a mystery box if they have unfavorable ingredients. The contestants then get to cook the dish. The style of cuisine is not restricted, and the contestants are allowed to create dish however they want, but they primary ingredient must be the lentil they’ve chosen. The show incorporates further twists where the contestants play a game, and the winner of the game gets an advantage. Often, the advantage means an extra ingredient or extra time.

The contestants have limited time after which their dish is judged. The show does not have a set judge and calls guest judges in each episode. The judges taste the both dishes and rate them on different parameters like innovation and taste. The dish that fulfils the criteria better wins the episode. The winning duo is awarded a gift hamper at the end.
