Satyavadi Raja Harishchandra is a Hindi series directed by Sunil Agnihotri.
The series speaks about the legendary King Harishchandra. Raja Harishchandra is a righteous king who doesn’t even lie, even if it is for a good cause. During his rule, his subjects enjoyed peace and prosperity. He was married to Shaivya, aka Taramati, and had a son, Rohitashva. Once Raja Harishchandra heard a cry of a woman seeking help. Suddenly, he moved to the place. But, it was the sound illusioned by Vignaraja, to disturb the sage Viswamitra’s tapas. Unaware of this, Harischandra visited the place, and Viswamitra became angry, as his meditation was disturbed. When Raja Harishchandra apologized, and told the sage that he would fulfil all his desires, Viswamitra demanded the entire kingdom from the King, except for his family. Raja Harishchandra handed over his entire kingdom to the sage and lived as a slave. However, Raja Harishchandra’s subjects followed him wherever he went. This didn’t go well with Viswamitra, and he cursed Harishchandra’s followers, too. Till his death, he suffered a lot, including his son’s death.
