Vaishali Kasaravalli was born on 12 April 1952 in Gulbarga to theatre enthusiast parents Nirmala and Dr. Chitagopi. She was a well noted Kannada film actor, costume designer and television serial director. Vaishali Kasaravalli completed BA. Late Dr. B.V.Karanth initiated her to theatre. After her family moved to Bangalore, She acted in many plays including Jokumaraswamy, Hayavadana,  Midsummer Night’s Dream, Natakakaarana Shdhaneyalli  Aaru Paathragalu and many more. Vaishali Kasaravalli also directed Sevanthi Prasanga and translated many Marathi and Hindi classic works.

T. S. Narasimhan is a film producer best known for producing and Directing films for children. He was born in 1927. He lived in Kolkata, India. Narasimhan made a spectacular movie called Dangeyedda Makkalu. Narasimhan won the National Award for the Best Children’s Film; he produced the Naaviddeve Echcharike, which helped him bag the national award. Narasimhan is also renowned for bringing the Malgudi Days, directed by Shankar Nag. Malgudi Days is a fictional novel by the writer R K Narayan. Narasimhan has produced several films and TV series such as “Kesarina Kamala”, “Bangarada Jinke”, “Banker Margaya.” He has produced numerous TV series such as Tenali Rama and Stone boy, televised in Doordarshan. He was part of various organizations and committees like, Centre Board of Film Censors, Film and Television Institute of India, and National Film Development Corporation. He died on 27 July 2013 in Bengaluru. Narasimhan has three children, two sons, and a daughter.

7. Master Manjunath

Master Manjunath is an actor from India well known for his role as ‘Swami’ in the evergreen people’s favourite television series, ‘Malgudi Days’. He was born as Manjunath Nayaker on December 23rd in the year 1976 in the city of Bangalore in Karnataka. Manjunath completed his higher secondary education and headed to college and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English (BA. English) from Mysore University. He then majored in Sociology (MA. Sociology) from Bangalore University. Manjunath was interested in filmmaking considering the amount of exposure he had in his childhood as Swami. He underwent a certificate course in cinematography and took a diploma. Manjunath started his acting career when he was just three years old. 8. Girish Karnad

Born on 19th May 1938, Girish Raghunath Karnad is a multi-faceted artiste; he is not only an actor, but also a writer, director and playwright. He has mainly worked in South Indian films. He was awarded the Jnanpith Award during 1998; this award is the highest literary recognition in India. Girish Karnad has been working on plays for around 40 years. His subject of interest is mythology and history. He has also done translation of his plays into English language. Moreover, his translated plays in regional languages were directed by many directors. 

 

During the 60s Karnad was an outstanding playwright and Kannada world witnessed Modern Indian playwrighting through him. Kannada literature was carried away by the Western literature during the time when Karnad stepped into writing plays. Here, then Karnad used historical and mythological sources to handle contemporary issues. “Yayati”, his first play, condemns life’s ironies with the help of characters in Mahabharata. This new theme got immediate response and was much appreciated. Another play of his, Tughlaq, made Karnad as one of the worthy playwrights to look out for. 

 

Girish Karnad is most prominent in Hindi and Kannada industry. He has Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan to his credit and he is also the proud recipient of 4 Film Fare awards. Karnad has worked in Hindi movies including Godhuliand, Utsav and Pukar. His film titled Kanooru Heggaditi received critical recognition. It is the adaptation of a novel of Kannada writer. 

 

Girish Karnad had donned various roles in his career and he adopted writing as a full-time career for some time. He is known for his narration in the famous audio book series for children, Karadi Tales. He has also voiced Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in the audio book “Wings of Fire”. 

 

Girish Karnad has got international acclaim as a playwright, actor, director, poet, translator and critic. His strong point as a playwright is that he tries to establish a link between the present and the past. And in fact, he has indeed gained the acclaim that he truly deserves.

9. Shankar Nag

Shankar Nag, most influential and talented Kannada actor and director, who acted in around 90 Kannada movies, in a career spanning 12 years from 1978 to 1990. Shankar also produced R.K. Narayan's novel, Malgudi Days as a teleserial and also acted in it. He was also a part a Kannada theater. He co-wrote 22 June 1897, an Indian national award-winning Marathi film. One of his films, Autoraja is appreciated by the audience to the level that even now his posters are there on auto rickshaws of Karnataka even after 25 years of his death. He was also focused towards social improvement as his films portrayed that. He was of friendly nature and loved by all. Shankar Nag was a versatile personality and has left his mark on the Kannada Film Industry in many ways. Nationally, he will be remembered for his famous work, Malgudi Days, which was well directed and telecasted along. Personal Life: Shankar Nagarkatte, better known as Shankar Nag, was born to a Brahmin family on November 9, 1954, to Sadanand and Anandi Nagarkatte. After finishing his studies, Shankar Nag lived in Mumbai for some time. During this period, he was involved in Marathi theater. Incidentally, it was at this time that he met his wife, Arundhati. On Sep 30 1990, while on his way to Dharwad for a film shoot, Shankar Nag died in a car accident. Career: After completing his education from Mumbai, Shankar returned to Karnataka. When Shankar Nag shifted back to Karnataka, he began to get involved in the Kannada Movie Industry. Anant Nag, Shankar’s elder brother, was already a famous actor and Shankar Nag was offered a role in the movie Ondanondu Kaladalli in 1978 (debut). This debut movie, which became a classic hit in Kannada, earned him a National Award at the Delhi International Film Festival.

Sameer Rajda is a talented television actor. He is known for his work in Gujarati films. Mulraj Rajda (actor) is his father. He was well known by the name Shatrughna, in the serials Ramayan & Luv Kush, directed by Ramanand Sagar. Ramayan was a television serial based on Hindu epic. This serial was shown during the year 1987-1988. This serial, was completely based on Valmki’s Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas by Tulsidas. According to the epic, Shatrughna i.e. Sameer was the youngest brother of Lord Rama. This serial, was telecasted on Doordarshan and ran till 78 episodes.


Luv Kush was a follow up of the successful serial Ramayan. This serial was also directed by Ramanand Sagar with the same cast. This serial, was about the last book of the epic Ramayana named Uttara Kanda. This serial showed the life of Luv, elder son of Shri Rama and Khus, the younger son of Shri Rama. It was aired on DD National in 39 episodes.


He has also worked in the serial named Mahabharat, based on the Hindu epic Mahaabhaarat as Uttar. This serial, was telecasted in 94 episodes in DD National from 2 October, 1988 to 24 June, 1990. B. R. Chopra has produced it and his son, Ravi Chopra has directed this serial. Mahendra Kapoor has sung its title song while the narration was followed by Harish Bhimani in the episodes. Rajkamal has composed its music and costumes were provided by Maganlal Dresswala.

11. Chetan
