Nanda was born (8 January 1939) to a film-based family; her father, Vinayak Damodar Karnataki, was a renowned Marathi actor-director-producer. Her mother, Meenaxi, was also an actress. Since the death of her father at her very early age, Nanda’s childhood was spent in difficult times. Thus, she debuted as a child star, financially assisting her family. The film Mandir was her debut film.
