Sangeethe is a popular Sri Lankan soap opera that premiered on TV Derana on February 11, 2019. The show is directed by Saranga Mendis, produced by Chamika Mendis, and written by Saman Edirimunee. The show airs every weekday evening from 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The series has a talented cast which includes Lavan Abhishek, Geethma Bandara, Pramoth Ganearachchi, and Sriyantha Mendis in the leading roles. Mahee and Aseni are the two main characters of the show. Mahee comes from a middle-class background and leads a musical band with his friends. Aseni is the kind-hearted daughter of a wealthy but unscrupulous businessman. Even though she is from a rich family, she prefers a happy simple life. She often chooses to walk or use public transportation to get to school.

Aseni is friendly, so she quickly befriends Mahee's younger brother, Malitha. They form a close friendship and become best friends who enjoy playfully teasing each other. Aseni also develops a warm relationship with Mahee's elder sister, Nishani, who teaches at their school. Initially, Mahee is wary of Aseni, assuming she shares her family's questionable values. Aseni continuously attempts to befriend Mahee. She often sees him riding his motorcycle near her school. He eventually recognizes her true nature as kind-hearted and moral, but before he thought she was also like corrupt family members. A turning point in their relationship occurs when Mahee assists Aseni's ailing grandfather, who he finds collapsed on the road. This act of kindness deeply touches Aseni. She is very fond of her grandfather. Her grandfather is the only family member who genuinely cares for her. Her parents had abandoned her grandfather in an elderly home when she was young.

She continuously visited him at the old age. As time passes, Mahee and Aseni develop a close friendship that gradually evolves into romantic feelings. However, the rivalry between their families prevents them from openly expressing their emotions. Aseni's elder brother, Kalana, leads a competing music group. He is also of an arrogant type. During this time Mahee's band gained popularity. This intensifies the animosity of Aseni's brother. She frequently visited Mahee’s home. This created a bond between her and his family members. However, when Aseni's family discovers her friendship with Mahee and Malitha, they react negatively. This situation resulted in threats and physical violence. But Mahee and Aseni's connection deepens, eventually leading to a mutual confession of love. Mahee's family, having grown fond of Aseni, accepted her as Mahee's girlfriend. On the other hand, Aseni's family resisted her relationship with Mahee. They constantly insulted and threatened Mahee and his family. Despite these obstacles, Aseni and Mahee's love remains strong. Aseni's father becomes desperate to separate them. He arranges her engagement to Kalpana, the son of a corrupt politician known for his playboy lifestyle. When Kalpana proposes, Aseni rejects him, declaring her love for Mahee. Kalpana attempts to kill Mahee but fails. This incident leads Aseni's family to force her into a relationship with Kalpana.

Aseni grows to despise Kalpana for his unethical behavior. Kalpana enraged by the rejection try to take revenge on her. He tried to be friendly and loving in front of her while secretly plotting revenge. The other supporting cast of the show includes Manoj Devage as Kalpana, Kumudu Nishantha as Milinda, Prabath Chathuranga as Ranjan, and Dayadewa Edirisinghe as Senaka, among many others. The show explores themes of love, family loyalty, class differences, and the struggle between personal desires and societal expectations. Overall the show is about two families, where one is rich and one is poor. Without considering this class difference the two young members of these families fall in love with each other. One family being corrupt and arrogant tries to kill and harm the other. While the other, presented as a good family accepted the girl as a family member irrespective of the class.
