Plot

Lucky Man revolves around Murugan, who works as an agent of a real estate company and has been ostracized and teased for being unlucky since childhood. So, he is doing a small job with a lot of salary and supporting his wife and son. At this point, a lottery company offers Murugan a car as a fortunate gift. The arrival of the car proved to be beneficial and lucky for Murugan. Once, Murugan gets into a fight with the police officer Sivakumar over the parking of his car. At that time, he had to apologize to Murugan in front of his superior. Shivakumar finds it very insulting. Murugan's case further irritates Sivakumar, who is very impatient due to an incident in the past. Therefore, he cannot open his heart to the girl who loves him. Soon after, Murugan’s car gets stolen as he is could not find it where he parked it. So, he complains to Shivakumar in urgent situations. He also loses his job by running around looking for his car. Frustrated with this, his wife leaves him too.  Murugan gets completely upset with that. Murugan believes the words of his friend Venkat that police officer Sivakumar must have done all this out of anger against him. Sivakumar complains to his superiors. What will Sivakumar, who is known as a short-tempered officer, do then? What happened to Murugan's car? How does the feud between Sivakumar and Murugan affect this investigation? The rest of the story tells how the lives of these two will change in the end.

Star Performances

Yogi Babu has done a great job of portraying the differences in his character as a person stuck in a family environment and someone who moves forward after the arrival of the car. He never gave up trying to make people laugh in any situation. It has worked in many places. As a family woman who alternates between anger and love, Rachel adds strength to her role. She has also scored in comedy like Yogi Babu in many places. The child actor Sadhvik makes this family more entertaining with his innocent facial expressions and mischievousness. Veera, who comes across as an honest officer, tries to do justice to his role, but the character's "good or bad" confusion is reflected in his performance. It's an essential role for Abdul Lee, who travels throughout the film as Yogi Babu's friend, and he does it effectively. Dawood's character as the house owner of 'Temple Monkeys' is also laughable. The rest of the cast justified their respective characters.

Analysis

Balaji Venugopal's movie Lucky Man is based on the everyday life of an unlucky lower-middle-class man who struggles to make ends meet with his family expenses. How he finds solace in materialistic things he owns. We see Yogi Babu doing what he is good at-comedy. Though in the beginning, it looks promising, it loses its way as it progresses and contains sequences that don't lift the core idea much. sets up a perfect platform with feel good moments eventually building tension between two characters, the latter half fails to capitalize on the same. In the second half, as the car disappears, the screenplay loses interest. Though the dialogues are impactful, the exact impact hardly hits the audience. Also, some sequences in the second half get a bit chaotic and even seem silly for a film that started in a very realistic way. While the dialogues are on point, a disturbing factor throughout the film is the dubbing.  Some actions hardly justify to viewers and are felt absurd, like, at one point, we even see Yogi Babu stealing a dog to take revenge. Sandeep K. Vijay's camera work while capturing the night scenes is impressive.  Shaun Roldan’s music as usual feels good in the background. Also the songs are catchy and one starts humming them after listening.  Film editor G. Madhan could have done more in the second half.

What’s There?

  • Feel-good comedy sequences are pretty refreshing.
  • The cinematography enhances the viewer’s experience.

What’s Not There?

  • Some scenes felt quite absurd.
  • A slow-paced second half could have been improved.
  • There are various loopholes in the screenplay.

Verdict

The film is an imperfect yet interesting take on luck, live, love and humanity. It triggers a chain reaction in a battle between unequals, with reasonable confidence. If you don’t want to invest too much of your brain and just chill out, you can give this film a try.
