Plot

Krishna is an aspiring director who wants to make it big in the industry. He is a content family man with a wife and a daughter. However, when Mahi enters his life, nothing remains the same. Does Krish manage to evade the attraction of Mahi, or will his wife have to make a harsh decision?

Star Performances

The lead cast is also great in their respective roles. Priya Chohan, who plays the indomitable spouse Radha, is brilliant. She refuses to accept things as they are, reminding some of what Bhumi Pednekar Bhumi Pednekar is Maharashtrian unconventional act >> Read More... did in the 2019 flick 'Pati, Patni aur Woh' [made on an identical theme].

Analysis

The 'third person in a relationship', or simply an extramarital affair is one of the most popularly sought-after tropes in most Indian movies, irrespective of region. As such, Murali Ramaswamy had nothing new to offer.

Yet, he did, combining the struggles of surviving in the film industry and managing relationships in a quirky way. 'Deenamma Jeevitham' presents the daily struggles of the people aiming to make it big on the grand stage of cinema.

However, what makes this film unique is the way they integrate these struggles with interpersonal relationships, especially that of extramarital affairs. Without glorifying the ills, the movie hits most of the right notes, if not all.

Interestingly, the female characters in this movie are no glam dolls and have a purpose to fight for, be it the spouse of Krish or his new muse. Probably, the makers understood the gist of the 2019 Bollywood entertainer 'Pati, Patni aur Woh' [which is itself a modern remake of the 1978 classic directed by BR Chopra] very well. This is why despite some of its flaws, 'Deenamma Jeevitham' is a good watch.

Verdict

'Deenamma Jeevitham' is a bold but unconventional take on extramarital affairs. It presents both sides without malice and lets the audience decide for themselves. It might not be perfect, but it is far from boring and is worth your time!
