Plot

Melnaattu Marumagan depicts the life story of Sakhti, who has rather unusual dreams. Sakhti is a tourist guide and he has only one yearning, to marry a foreigner or at least fall in love with one. As a guide, he is assigned to assist Andreanne who is a French tourist. He immediately develops a fondness for her and does everything in his power to pursue Andreanne. He is supposed to travel with her throughout the entire state and make sure her journey is fruitful.

There is nothing more Sakhti could ever want or ask for. As they embark on this tumultuous experience, his motive is clear- to pursue Andreanne. But, language stands as their huge barrier.

Star Performances

Melnaattu Marumagan is one of the rare films that focuses on a very pointless storyline and thus loses its entire essence. The only reason this movie isn’t rated in the negatives is due to the involvement of Armeena Rajkamal as the main character. He has been a household name in various soap operas and got his breakthrough in cinema through Sandhikuthirai. His impersonation of Sakhti keeps the audience engaged if not entertained. His expressions and humor save the day for this disastrous movie.

Analysis

Melnaattu Marumagan can be easily categorized as a romantic comedy with no definite plot. This movie mainly falters when it comes to the structure of the storyline, it is the same old trope. Many movies have been made revolving around love between people of different regions and this one failed brutally. The director tried to give a unique perspective to an already explored screenplay but the execution lacked major efforts.

Also, the dubbing of Andreanne as Andreanne makes no sense or serves any purpose. It is due to movies like this that disappoint viewers tremendously by their cinematic appearances. If only the screenplay was given proper thought, the storyline was structured articulately, and a better cast was chosen, then this could have been at least palatable to the audience.
