Plot The film shows us the journey of two completely different people and what makes them undergo a transformation. One of them is a Buddhist monk, and the other one is a female builder. Buddhist monk spends his life in Monastery and mountains to search the real meaning of life. But an incident occurs, and he faces the harsh reality of lives of city prostitutes. This transforms his mindset towards truth, enlightenment, and peace.
On the other hand, a female builder whose expectations from life are different, who is caught in the web of greed and power soon realizes that there lies a bigger meaning of life and transforms herself to achieve it.
Analysis Dr.Sudeep Ranjan Sarkar chooses an out of the box theme to direct. Indian Cinema has rarely witnessed such art movies in past. And it needs guts to make a flick which is not a commercial material as one can't be sure about the reaction of the audience. And Dr. Sarkaar deserves a bow as he has pulled out a miracle. 'Umformung' was loved by the viewers, and most importantly, by critics.
The film became the talk of B- Town when it was released and also bagged all the limelight at Award Functions. 'Umformung' had one of the best cinematography, editing, production values, acting, and above all direction. Music of the flick by Sanjib Sarkar is fantastic.
Star Performances: Film stars Sushil Bhosale, Sanjay Bhatia, and Rohit Kokate in leading roles. It seems that the casting director has invested considerable time in choosing these artists, and they too have done justice to their roles. All these actors haven't been part of movies earlier and have worked in theater only.
But the depth of their character could be felt and would surely touch the viewer. No doubt the topic of the flick is convincing, but the artists have done a bigger job of carrying that theme throughout. One won't feel bored at any point in the entire film.
What's there?
1. Acting performances of the artists make it a must watch.
2. Technicians have done a good job in forming a masterpiece.
3. The direction of the movie is commendable and who won't get confused with two parallel stories running in the same flick.
4. Music stole the limelight and provided a soothing effect to the listener.
What's not there?
1. Children may not cherish it as the theme of the movie is serious.
2. The flick won't entertain with some peppy dance numbers as they don't have any.
Verdict If you don't want any commercial 'masala' and just want to feel the real meaning of life, then grab your popcorns, cold drink, and book your weekend for 'Umformung.'
