Plot

Sam, who works in Mumbai, gets a job in Mauritius. He moves there with his wife, Mahi, who is pregnant. After some miscarriages, the couple is expecting their first child. Mahi visits an antique shop and gets attracted to a wooden box. The box has a spirit that is waiting for the right soul to possess. Unknowing about it, Mahi brings it home and starts experiencing some supernatural incidents. Were they able to find out the truth? Were they able to save their baby? The rest of the film deals with these.

Star Performance

Emraan Hashmi and Nikita Dutta fit well in their roles, and they have done what is expected of them.

Analysis

The film that was a hit in Mollywood was expected to make some ripples in Bollywood too. But the energy we saw in the Malayalam version is missing in Dybbuk. The screenplay doesn’t impress, and the horror feeling is missing. The VFX effects are neat, and so do the BGM and cinematography. The relief is that there are no unnecessary scenes to derail from the script. The stars did a decent job, but the lead stars’ chemistry is not much impressive.

What’s There?

  • The stars have given a decent performance
  • The production and technical values are good

What’s Not There?

  • The horror elements are missing
  • The screenplay should have been penned better

Verdict

The film didn’t have any terrifying elements. If you want to try a non-spooky horror thriller, you can try this!
