), the son of Saddam Hussein, is a spoilt sybarite. He gets to know about an Iraqi soldier Latif Yahia (also by Dominic Cooper), who is his look-alike. He tortures Latif for a week and also threatens to ruin Latif’s family if he doesn’t accept to be his body-double. Latif tries to oppose the psychotic behaviour of Uday and to flee from them, but in turn, he faces torment. The atrocities of Uday cause life-threatening situations to Latif. How did Latif manage all this? What did he do? Watch the film to find out.
Star Performances
Dominic Cooper is amusing as Uday and Latif. But he plays Uday remarkably well that we totally hate the character. As Latif, he gives an understated performance, conveys the struggle of being a decent one in the midst of erroneous people. Ludivine Sagnier is boringly lewd. Philip Quast does an okay job as Saddam Hussein.
Analysis
This movie is partly biographical and partly fictional. Lee Tamahori brings forth the dictatorial behaviours of the rulers. The film has graphical content, disgusting at some point. Some parts of the story are unclear. The screenplay and cinematography are strictly mediocre. Many scenes bear a resemblance to ‘Scarface’.The director fails to engage the audience and makes them wonder what he actually wants to show on screen. Thanks to Uday’s character, too much of sexual assaults and violence will be going on. It seems as if it is a string of abhorrent acts with the story running in the middle.
