The story of this crime thriller is based on the film’s writer, Leo McKern’s radio play named ‘London Story’. The B movie was released and distributed by British Lion Film Corporation.

Plot:

The film shows a series of coincidences leading to unexpected twists and turns, when Clark, a bank clerk, tries to avoid paying his bus fare. But as luck would have it, a bus inspector gets on and asks for his ticket. Not knowing what to do, he lies and gives his acquaintance’s name and address when the inspector asks him. This acquaintance, John Stockman, has to go to court because of not paying the bus fare. This leads to further complications, including blackmail and even murder in the film.

Star performance:

The sarcastic crime thriller is brought to life by its actors like Kenneth Griffith, Dermot Walsh and Miss Marple Joan Hickson. The film is sort of a comical outtake on how one thing leads to another on top of being a crime thriller.

Analysis:

The 62 minutes long crime drama can be a good watch if you are in the mood to watch old British dramas involving crime and some hilarious characters. Despite being only about an hour long, the film is slow-paced and could have been done without many unnecessary scenes and being a shorter film.

What’s there?

• An enjoyable watch

• A good drama of coincidences

What’s not there?

• Compelling acting performances

• A well-written and concise script

Verdict:

Overall, it is a good watch if you are bored and it has a steady story, but on close scrutiny, it has several plot holes and some unnecessary side stories. It is apt for a brisk hour’s entertainment.
