”, Oren Peli brings to you yet another exciting Sci-fi horror thriller, “Area 51”. Being a person who is obsessed with all things supernatural, Oren Peli loves taking people to places they don’t belong. What makes this movie interesting is the fact that it is based on a place which actually exists. Area 51 is basically a top- secret military base in the United States which is often rumored to be a home to dangerous extra-terrestrial beings. The movie basically revolves around the mysterious discoveries made at the Area 51 base and would most certainly be appealing to all those fellow sci-fi fans out there!
Plot: The story begins with three best friends Reid, Darren and Ben who mysteriously disappear. All three of them being conspiracy theorists and with Reid being the leader of the pack, they decide to go on a road trip to the infamous Area 51. They, however, encounter strange, unexplainable events and fail to return. Investigators later find a camcorder at the site of their disappearance. Further investigations reveal that the trio had not been on a road trip but had however set out on an adventure to discover the eerie secret about the mysterious‘Area 51’. The investigators are baffled as the camcorder not only the details of their whereabouts but also some horrifying secrets. Is Area 51 really a home to extra-terrestrial beings? What exactly happened to the three best friends? Watch the movie to find out more!!
Analysis: At first, it appeared that Oren Peli might have done it right. Blending actors and sets with real people and locations associated with Area 51, the fact that the setup is intriguing cannot be denied. Moreover, the film-makers attempt to foil some of the high-tech security systems which seem plausible. However, as you continue to watch the movie, you seem to realize that the entire film starts to become downright ridiculous. This movie can no doubt become a huge hit among all those sci-fi and shaky-cam movie fans!!
Star Performances: All three actors Reid, Darren, and Ben, have done an extremely good job.Their acting is appreciable especially during those unexpected moments when they are being chased by aliens. Reid Warren, also known for his work in previous movies, ‘House of Manson’ and ‘Small Gods,' who plays the lead role in this movie has done exceptionally well.
What's There?
1. The beginning of the film is extremely gripping.
2. The special effects and lighting are stunning.
3. The acting is average.
4. The planning and design are of high caliber.
What's Not There?
1. The story lacks content.
2. It gets totally unrealistic and ridiculous as the movie nears the end.
3. The scenes are extremely repetitive and get boring at certain points.
