Plot

A young rock band quits college and relocates to the Sunset Strip to pursue their dreams. Their talent and passion are enough to support them even though they live in a van. Lead singer Johnny Faust, who has recently learned of his mother's serious illness, is preyed upon by an enigmatic stranger. He takes advantage of the band's vulnerability and offers them a deal that will put them on the road to fame, and fortune, which leads them to destruction. Their controversial claims and music impact society more than anything this century has seen because of their deal with the devil himself.

Star Performance

Andy Biersack plays Johnny Faust, which is his acting debut role. He did a great job making the audience empathize with his character. Jesse Sullivan is amazing as Lily. They defy convention and play the part subtly.

Analysis

American Satan's basic storyline is nothing new. The movie tells the tale of a band that strikes such a deal and experiences success. The storyline is of any typical rock movie: newbie outsiders experience an unexpected meteoric rise to fame before realizing the price of that fame when innocent people are harmed and left behind. Aside from that, since the 1970s, heavy metal music has been associated with satanic and devil worship imagery. They make excellent use of Andrew Strahorn's lighting abilities as a cinematographer. The soundtracks have artists like After The Burial and Circa Survive of Sumerian Records, as Ash Avildsen is the CEO of Sumerian Records.
