Dark Reflection (The Conspiracy of Flight 313) is a thriller drama produced, written, and directed by former British airline captain Tristan Lorain. The film is based on actual events and revolves around aerotoxic syndrome. The film stars Georgina Sutcliffe, Rita Ramnani, Marina Sirtis, Stephen Tompkinson, Mark Dymond, Claire Morfett, and Nicholas Day. Nicholas Eriksson was responsible for its chief cinematography. The music and background scores were composed by Moritz Schmitt.

Plot

The movie starts with Helen, a journalist who tries to find a new job to stay closer to her friend Joe, who is an air traffic controller. Soon, Joe will be suspended from his job because of the crash of Flight 313 of JASP Airlines. But to Helen's surprise, this tragic incident is not highlighted by the press or newspapers. Hence, Helen, along with Natasha, her acquaintance, set out on a journey to find out the deep and dark secrets behind the flight collision conspiracy. They soon find out, with the help of Ben, the new director of JASP Airlines, that these kinds of incidents have happened before and argue about their unusual frequent occurrences, only to find out that it was a well-planned technical conspiracy that contaminated the air on the flight. This reveals the downcast reality of the airline and aviation industries. The movie embarks on a journey to get justice for the flight attendants, the pilots, the crew members, and the passengers flying in the planes with such a design defect.

Star Performances

Georgina Sutcliffe, as Helen, the journalist, has done an incredible job as the main lead. She portrays the exact depth and apprehensive attitude of a curious journalist. Rita Ramnani, as Natasha Stevens, also executed her role in supporting Georgina. Both provide the precise development of the storyline for the peculiar incident. Mark Dymond shines as the curious director of the Inculpate Aviation Company. Marina Sirtis, Stephen Tompkinson, Claire Morfett, and Nicholas Day have also done excellent jobs in supporting roles.

Analysis

The film has an interesting use of gradients and colors. It has a very intriguing concept and is based on a high-profile conspiracy with much technical detailing. But the film often disappoints the audience because it can't sustain their attention. The story becomes drowsy and isn't enjoyable after the first half. Although based on actual incidents, the film fails to amuse the viewer; it just feels like another underwhelming thriller. The climax scenes do have a lot of dynamic and suspenseful sequences. The acting may also feel dull because of the absence of patterns and enough dynamics.

What's There?

•The movie has incredibly well-crafted airplane mid-air sequences that try to match the actual episode of a plane crash. -
•Intense, technical, on-point dialogues make the movie engaging for select documentary lovers.
•The movie has no lamentable melodrama that looks refreshing on screen.
•The actors present pure class while acting, which engrosses the audience and makes the watching experience more realistic.

What's Not There?
•The movie, based on a vast conspiracy, lacks enough storyline development to engage the audience.
•The movie has a lot of technical and professional dialogue and scenes that may bore typical audiences.
•The movie lacks enough drama to make the story more profound and gets carried away with plane technicalities and aviation physics.
•The movie lacks the film's essence and mainly feels like a high-end documentary.

Verdict

The film, indeed, has a riveting topic that fails to amuse the average viewer.
The movie looks shabby at times. The film was shot on a low budget, and this shows up in a few scenes where the frame looks tacky and doesn't convince the audience. The movie deserves a watch because of its impeccable twists, turns, and notable theme. The film may not be amusing, but it is suitable for a one-time watch.
