Christy Shelton Fernando is a scriptwriter cum director who works in the Sri Lankan film and TV industries. He completed his mass communication and journalism degree at the University of Sri Jayawardanapura. Before entering the entertainment industry, Christy worked as a Maths teacher. He had also worked as a textbook reviewer for government educational publications. Christy worked as a multimedia scriptwriter and also a program producer for the government organization. Besides this, he was the guest director at the Selacine TV Institute of the Department of Information and the Government Film Unit.
Christy made his debut as an assistant director and a co-scriptwriter in 1981 for the film Dadayama, directed by Vasantha Obeysekara. Christy assisted the veteran filmmakers Titus Thotatawatta, Malani Fonseka, H.D. Premarathna, Ananda Abeynayaka, Benet Rathnayaka and Bertram Nihal in the first decade of his career. Since 1984, he has worked independently as a scriptwriter. In 2000, he directed Indrakheelaya, which was co-scripted by Sarath Dharmasiri. In 2002, he directed Tahanam Gaha. He won the Best Scriptwriter Award for his debut film, Dadayama, at the Presidential Awards in 1983. He won the Best Director award for Vinividimi Andura at the Raigam Tele Awards in 2007. In 2013, he won the Best Director Award at the Sumathi Tele Awards for Me Wasantha Kaalayai. His 2019 film Yatra, The Voyage was nominated for various awards, including Best Actress, Best Narrative, Best Director, and Best Film Award.
