Sinhala Actress Samanthi Lanarol

Samanthi Lanarole or Samanthi Lanerole is a Sinhala actress who primarily works in Sinhala movies. Born in 1944, she is considered as one of the most experienced actresses in the Sinhala industry. Through her acting ability and talent she has won the love of the audience and conquered the cinema, the small screen and the stage.She started her acting career in 1960’s and since then, she has performed in more than 60 movies. She started her acting career with a newspaper advertisement. In the 1960s, there was an advertisement in the university newspaper which said that actors were being recruited for Sugathapala Senarath Yapa’s Hanthane story. By that advertisement she joined the film and her journey as an actress started. She has done many remarkable roles in the films. Her most special role was ‘Lechchamee’ in the Wijaya Dharma Sri’s film Duhulu Malak (1976).

She received warm response from the critics for the role and a special place in the hearts of many cinema lovers. Her illustrious career includes many remarkable roles in the films. She got a breakthrough in her acting career when she got the opportunity of working with Dr Lester James Peers in the film ‘Awaragira’. Throughout her career, she worked in many different films like, Silva (1980), Dandu Monara (1980), Situ Kumariyo (1981), Aradhna (1981), Peralikarayo (1986), Raja Wadakarayo (1987), Awaragira (1990), Sakvithi Raja (1992), Kulageya (1992), Athma (1994), Ohoma Harida (2004), Nohadan Amme (2004), Thank You Berty (2010), Raja Horu (2013), Parapura (2014), Hora Police (2016), Aloko Udapadi (2017). She has worked in TV series and shorts as well.

Some noteworthy TV series are Parasathu Vila (2007), Situ Diyaniyo (2009), Milaa (2011). She also appeared in critically acclaimed short ‘A Democratic Proposal ‘(2019). She has appeared in many stage plays as well as small screens.. Her first stage play was Jayasekara Aponsu’s play ‘Seema Bandhana’. Then onwards she has done more than 20 stage plays. Also, she has more than 200 small screen appearances to her credentials. On 24th August of 2019, the occasion of the 50th anniversary of her cinema career, National Film Corporation and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs organized a tribute ceremony for the recognition of her acting ability and her contribution towards the film industry.
