Kanchana Mendis is an actress in Sri Lankan film industry, television industry and drama. She was born on 24th of June in 1980 in Sinhala. At the age of 12, she acted in the television serial Suba Anagathayak, directed by Dharmasena Pathiraja, which garnered her popularity. Her entry into the mainstream film industry happened through the 2000 Sinhala film Rajaya Sewaya Pinisai, where she played the role of a private secretary named Prabashwari under the direction of Udayakantha Warnasuriya.

She has also made appearances in Tamil films like Varnajalam, alongside Sadha and Srikanth, as well as Kanagalal Kai Rasi. Additionally, she has showcased her talent in stage dramas such as Dharma Sangramaya by Saman Thushara and Ananga Bambaru by Richard Manawadu. In 2003, Kanchana was offered the position of the Brand Ambassador for the special 40th anniversary lottery ticket by the Sri Lankan National Lotteries Board. That same year, she received the Sumathi Tele award at Artscope for being the Most Popular Actress. Kanchana Mendis has been part of numerous television serials, including Akaradaruwa, Ambu Daruwo, Apooru Soladaduwa, Athma Senehasa, Bharyawo, Bindena Benduma, Bopath Sakkiya, Dahas Gawdura, Damini, Dath Kekulu Pala and many more.

Throughout her career, Kanchana Mendis has received numerous awards at local film festivals and television festivals. She was awarded the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the debut movie Rajaya Sevaya Pinisai at the Presidential Awards in the year 2000. She has appeared in several notable films throughout her career. In 2000, she portrayed the character of Prabashwari in the movie Rajya Sevaya Pinisai, for which she won the Presidential Award. She then played the role of Hansamali in the film Rosa Wasanthe in 2001. In 2002, she starred in Sudu Sewaneli, followed by her portrayal of Prema, the leading female role in Sakman Maluwa in 2003. She also appeared in Pura Sakmana and One Shot in the same year.

In 2004, Kanchana ventured into the Tamil film industry with the movie Varnajalam, where she played the character of Viji. She further showcased her talent in the film Samaara in 2006, portraying the role of Indu. Continuing her acting journey, Kanchana appeared in Nisala Gira in 2007 and Superstar in 2008. She also took part in the remake of Hathara Denama Surayo in the same year, playing the role of Soma. In 2008, she starred as Mandakini in Heart FM. In 2011, Kanchana contributed to the film industry with her performances in Sinhawalokanaya as Shenali and Samanala Uyana.

She later appeared in Parapura in 2014, portraying the character Chethana. More recently, Kanchana Mendis featured in the films Sooriya in 2017 and Wassane Sihinaya in 2021. In her personal life, Kanchana's father passed away when she was just two years old. She tied the knot with Roshan Ranawaka in 2009, and together they have two sons named Senuka Ryan and Nimana Rowen, as well as a daughter named Keisha Rayili. Currently, she resides in Detroit with her family.
