Damitha Abeyratne is a Sri Lankan actress, born as Sedhavi Mudiyanselage Damitha Buddhini Abeyratne Bandara on 14th September 1975. She completed her education at Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya in Nugegoda and St. Paul’s Girls School, Milagiriya. In 2014, Damitha married Lenily Johnson. She made her acting debut in 1987 with the drama Passe Gena Manamali. In 1993, she made her silver screen debut with Mee Haraka. The film was directed by Hewawasam. Some of her notable films are Mandakini, Sulang Kirilli, Bambara Walalla, Ira Handa Yata, Gamani, Ulath Ekai Pilath Ekai, Midunu Vishwaya, and Sri Siddha.
Ambu Daruwo, Ammai Thaththai, Issaraha Gedara, Kiripabalu Vila, Raththarana Neth, “ Salsapuna Story soon >> Read More... ,” Sulanga Maha Meraka, and “Wansakkarayo” are some of her famous TV dramas.
In 2005, she won the Vishva Keerthi Award for the film Sulang Kirilli. The same year, she was honoured with the Outstanding Young Personality award by the Junior Chamber Sri Lanka for her contribution to the Art. She has won the Best Actress award thrice at the SIGNIS OCIC Awards. She received the Presidential Award for her performance in Sulang Kirilli. Sulang Kirilli has also won two International awards for her, including the Best Actress award at the Tamil Nadu International Film Festival and Dhaka International Film Festival in 2005. She received the Best Actress award at the Sumathi Awards for Keli Madala. In 2012, she won the Best Actress award for Swayanjatha. In 2015, she won the Best Supporting Actress award for Pravegaya.
In 2023, the actress joined the political party Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
