Wijeratne Warakagoda is a Sri Lankan film, television, theatrical actor, and singer. Wijeratne was born on 21 November 1933 in Kurunegala village, Sri Lanka, and his full name is Rajakaruna Navaratne Atapattu Mudiyanselage Wijeratne Banda Warakagoda. Madduma Bandara was his father, and Basnayake Mudiyanselage Ran Menika was his mother. He has been married to Chithra Iranganie Jayasinghe since 1970, who was his co-actor in the stage play Kuveni by Henry Jayasena.
They have two children, Vindya and Jananath. Wijeratne attended St. Anne's College in Kurunegala and Ananda College in Colombo. While continuing his stage acts, Wijeratne served as a sub-inspector in the Crime Division for eight years. The first stage drama he acted in was Ajasaththa by Wimal Nawagamuwa. He worked as a voice artist for the radio drama- Muwan Pelessa, in which he portrayed John Mcwood, Arachchila, and Korale, making him the first and only actor in history to appear in 2700 episodes of a radio drama. Ajasaththa, Arunata Pera, Hunuwataye Kathawa, Kuveni, Maname, and Sinhabahu are among his stage plays.
Some of his television serials include- Alli and Galli, Amarapuraya, Katu Kurullo, Kele Hana, Punchi Weerayo, Rathriya, Sathyaya, and others. Gamperaliya (1963), Delovak Athara (1966), Golu Hadawatha (1968), Akkara Paha (1970), Thun Man Handiya (1970), Nidhanaya (1972), Bedegama (1981) and others are some of his films. Wijeratne Warakagoda was the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation's Deputy Director General until 1990. At the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in 2019, he received the Janabhimani Honorary Award.
