Kirpal Kazakh is an eminent and well-known Punjabi writer known for his outstanding writing skills. Kirpal was born on 15 January, 1943 in village Baloke, Sheikhupura district, British Punjab (now Pakistan). He got his talent from his father. Sadhu Singh Ramgarhia, who was well skilled in Arabic, Sanskrit, Persian and Punjabi. Their family migrated to Fatehpur Majra village, Patiala district, Punjab, India, after the partition of India. He used to work as a mason and carpenter when he was younger. Kirpal began his writing career by contributing to Punjabi magazine Nagmani. Then in 1972, he published his first book ‘Kala Ilm’. He was also appointed as a folklore assistant at Punjabi University, Patiala, where he researched for the culture of nomadic tribes from Punjab such as Gadia Lohars and Sikligars. Kirpal has also won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2019 for his short-story collection Antheen.
