Luca English Movie Review

Luca is an animated film scripted by Jesse Andrews and Mike Jones and directed by Enrico Casarosa, and produced by Andrea Warren. Dan Romer composed the music. David Juan Bianchi and Kim White cranked the camera, and editing is by Catherine Apple and Jason Hudak. The voice actors are Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, Marco Barricelli, Saverio Raimondo, Maya Rudolph, Jim Gaffigan, Sandy Martin, Giacomo Gianniotti, Marina Massironi, and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Plot

Luca Paguro is a sea monster who lives with his parents, Daniela and Lorenzo. Luca is always advised to stay underwater and is not permitted to go near the surface. Alberto Scorfano is also a sea monster who had experience living on land. Alberto takes Luca to an island. After coming out of the water, Luca comes to know that he could transform into a human. Luca started enjoying his new life and maintains it as a secret. Except for his grandmother, none of his parents know about his latest adventurous life on land. Soon, they make friends with Giulia Marcovaldo, who is a human. She didn’t know that they are sea monsters. Unfortunately, Giulia spills water on Luca, and his original identity is revealed. What happens to Luca? How did Giulia react? The rest of the film deals with these.

The voice actors are perfect with their voice-over style.

Analysis

The director had already mentioned that the story was inspired by his childhood incidents. The story, screenplay, and narration are neat. The animation works are fantastic, and the voice-over actors did an excellent job. The background music gels well with the story.
