Wanniarachchige Damayanthi Priyalatha Fonseka, commonly known as Damayanthi Fonseka, is a well-known actress in Sri Lankan cinema and television. She is correspondingly a producer and a director. She was born on 25th August 1960 in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. She was born to Gilbert Fonseka, who worked at a Government Press, and Seelwathie Fonseka who was a housewife. She has 11 siblings. She began acting at the age of ten as a child actor while she was in school. She performed in the short film Piyek Saha Minisek. Her first teen cinematic presence came through the film Madol Duwa directed by Lester James Peries. Her foremost screened film was Edath Suraya Adath Suraya.
